The Care of YOUR Health ~ Part I

gs259081Health care is on the mind of many these days ~ and since the promotion of healthy living and aging is my business, it’s something that is almost always on my mind!  While I’m not going to publicly weigh-in on the current debate over reform, I am going to be spending some time over the next several posts discussing the CARE of YOUR health…simple, straightforward, and practical thoughts about how to become less dependant on the health care system, and much more in-charge of your overall health and wellness.  We really can make a huge difference in our own lives…it may be a gradual process but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming or extreme if we take it one step at a time.

Let’s start with just a look at some thought-provoking words of wisdom ~ I’ve compiled a little list of some great quotes from a variety of great thinkers.  Some of these are light-hearted and fun, and others are more serious, but reading these words and then ‘mulling’ them over could be a step in the right direction.  I’ll follow-up soon with another bite-sized tidbit on how to take some action on these thoughts, but in the meantime, chew on this:

  • “The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like and do what you’d druther not. ”  ~Mark Twain
  • “A bodily disease, which we look upon as whole and entire within itself, may, after all, be but a symptom of some ailment in the spiritual past.”   ~Nathaniel Hawthorne
  • “A wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings, and learn how by his own thought to derive benefit from his illnesses.”  ~Hippocrates
  • “He’s the best physician that knows the worthlessness of the most medicines.”   ~Benjamin Franklin
  • “Love cures people – both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it.”   ~Dr.Karl Menninger
  • “The human body has been designed to resist an infinite number of changes and attacks brought about by its environment. The secret of good health lies in successful adjustment to changing stresses on the body.” ~Harry J. Johnson
  • “Half the costs of illness are wasted on conditions that could be prevented.”   ~Dr. Joseph Pizzorno

Health is not just a matter of your body…while I will be addressing the physical state in this series on “Health Care,” I will be putting due emphasis on the mental and emotional aspects also.  If you can change your mind and your outlook, you CAN change your body and it’s level of wellness.  Stay tuned!!
